It’s been 7 years since I’ve graduated high school.

7 years ago for a project we were asked to come as the person we wanted to be in 10 years and I chose a photographer who, “photographed her friends for a living.” Here we are, 7 years later, and I am getting paid to photograph my friends. Though the money I am making primarily goes towards the up keeping of my car, it is fascinating to see that I not only went to school for photography, but I didn’t give up when it was hard to see any sort of future in this business.

A friend and I went back to our high school to use the track and on our way to the track, we decided to take a trip back to the bench we hung out at. Everything felt so strange and beautiful and for the first time in 7 years, I actually missed high school. It wasn’t so much the school part, or even the people, it was the feeling of being carefree and knowing that any of the money I had, it went to my savings or shows because I didn’t have to worry about paying bills.

I exclaimed, “what the hell have I been doing for seven years?!” and she reminded me that I’ve been doing things. We all have. In our little group, one friend had her first baby a little under a year ago and another one is getting married in a few months.

Growing up will always be a strange thing.
